Alcorn State University has produced many notable alumni, including:

• Larry Smith, former NBA player who played for the Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, and San Antonio Spurs
  
• Leslie Frazier, former NFL head coach who is currently the defensive coordinator for the Minnesota Vikings
  
• Horace Cayton, sociologist and journalist who was a co-founder of the National Urban League
  
• Gwendolyn Brooks, a poet who was the first African American to win the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry
  
• Percy Greene, journalist and civil rights activist was the first African American to win a Pulitzer Prize for Commentary
  
• Emmett Chappelle, a chemist who was awarded the National Medal of Science for his work on the development of artificial photosynthesis
