The University of Erfurt is a public institution founded in the year 1379 it was later closed in 1816. In the year 1994, it was re-established after the German Reunification. In this case, the university is categorized among the oldest and the youngest university in the country of Germany. It is also known as a reform university since the famous Martin Luther is an alumnus who was the instigator of reformation. Its main focus is on social and cultural sciences though it is a university for humanities and arts.
